Government Oversight & Accountability

As a Public Service Unit under the County Veterans Service Office, we operate with full government transparency. Unlike private nonprofits, we are a Section 170(c)(1) entity. This means we are an instrument of the state, ensuring that every cent is subject to public audit and used exclusively for public veteran services.We do not seek profit. While we are not a 501(c)(3) private charity, we operate under a stricter level of accountability as a government-administered program. Every dollar supports guitar instruction and the procurement of instruments and supplies for veterans and their families.

HOW TO DONATE & SUPPORT

1. Financial Contributions (Checks)To ensure proper tax-deductible recording under IRC Section 170(c)(1), all financial donations are processed through the County Treasurer. Our transparent model utilizes existing county infrastructure, ensuring that 100% of designated funds stay within the veteran music mission without the overhead of a traditional nonprofit.

Payable To: Make checks out to either Shawano County CVSO or Menominee County CVSO with "Music4Vets" in the memo line.
Delivery: Please bring your donation to your local CVSO office in person. *Never send cash by mail.
*Non-Refundable: Please consult a qualified tax professional or CPA prior to donating to review current 2026 tax laws, as all contributions are non-refundable.

2. Musical Equipment & Gear (Physical)We are actively seeking guitars, amplifiers, and gear for guitar program. Depending on current needs of the organization physical donations may be sold and then added to donation funds to purchase different equipment for the program. Physical donations may also be issued to veterans to support their musical journey.

Tax-Deductible Contributions

Donations made to Music4Vets may be tax-deductible under IRC Section 170(c)(1) because they are made for a "public purpose" to a government body (the County Veterans Service Office). This status ensures your support is managed with full transparency and public oversight.2026 Tax Law Updates (OBBB Act) The "One Big Beautiful Bill" of 2026 has introduced significant changes to charitable giving. Please review how these updates may affect your contribution:1. For the Standard Deduction (Non-Itemizers) Starting in 2026, you can now claim a Universal Charitable Deduction (Above-the-Line), even if you do not itemize:

Single Filers: Deduct up to $1,000 in cash gifts.
Married Filing Jointly: Deduct up to $2,000 in cash gifts.
Note: This benefit applies strictly to cash, check, or credit donations. To receive a tax break for a non-cash item (such as an instrument), the donor must itemize.

2. For the Itemizer (Schedule A) If you choose to itemize your deductions, the following 2026 rules apply:

The 0.5% AGI Floor: You may only deduct total annual contributions that exceed 0.5% of your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI).
The 35% Benefit Cap: For donors in the highest tax bracket, the tax benefit for itemized deductions is now capped at 35%, regardless of your marginal rate.
60% Limit: The 60% AGI limit for cash donations to public entities like the CVSO is now permanent.
Physical Donations: Gear is deductible at "Fair Market Value." If the value exceeds $500, IRS Form 8283 must be completed. Donors should document the value of high-end instruments (e.g., vintage gear).
